Join us for Salisbury’s Annual Charter Service

Salisbury’s Annual Charter Service is taking place on Sunday 2 February as part of Charter Sunday and all are welcome to attend.

The service will take place in St Thomas’s Church at 10.15am and will celebrate the signing of the Salisbury Charter in 1227 as well as the links between Council, Church and the wider community. It is open to the public and Salisbury’s Mayor, Cllr Sven Hocking, and City Councillors will also be attending.

As part of Charter Sunday, the Mayor, City Councillors and guests of the city will process from Salisbury Guildhall at 10.10am to St Thomas’s Church for the annual service, which will mark 798 years since the charter was signed.

In 1227, New Sarum was made a city by a charter granted by King Henry III, confirming the relocation of the cathedral from Sarisberie and establishing the Charter Market and the annual Charter Fair.
