In 2027, our city marks a significant milestone: 800 years since receiving its Royal Charter. Salisbury City Council is organising a number of events and projects throughout the year to celebrate this landmark occasion, as part of a wider community-led Salisbury 800 programme.
At the heart of these celebrations will be the people who live here, work here and are connected to the city. We’re inviting everyone to get involved – whether through volunteering, partnerships, sponsorship or participation – to celebrate our shared heritage and future.

Living Legacy
Plant a Tree
Be part of the landmark Living Legacy project!
The initiative will see 800 saplings planted throughout Salisbury, creating a living legacy that will enhance the city’s natural environment for years to come.
Community groups, schools, businesses and residents are invited to apply for a tree or native hedge to plant on private land, with the permission of the landowner.
The project aims to support local biodiversity, provide valuable habitats for wildlife and contribute to the health and wellbeing of residents by increasing access to nature.
Applications can be made by completing the request form below.
Closing date for applications: 1 Oct 2026
Trees will be available for collection during Charter Sunday, 31st January 2027, on the Market Place.
