In 2027, our city marks a significant milestone: 800 years since receiving its Royal Charter. Salisbury City Council is organising a number of events and projects throughout the year to celebrate this landmark occasion.
Salisbury City Council’s events and projects will form part of the wider community-led Salisbury 800 programme. The citywide partnership is guided by a voluntary Project Board, bringing together representatives from Salisbury City Council, Salisbury BID, Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury Museum and Wiltshire Creative. At the heart of these celebrations will be the people who live here, work here and are connected to the city. We’re inviting everyone to get involved – whether through volunteering, partnerships, sponsorship or participation – to celebrate our shared heritage and future.
Public Briefings
You’re invited to attend public briefings and learn more about our 2027 events and projects that will mark the 800th anniversary of Salisbury receiving its Royal Charter. The anniversary is a landmark moment for the city, recognising eight centuries of Salisbury’s history while looking ahead to its future.
The City Council’s special calendar of events will run from January to December 2027, beginning on 31 January with the planting of 800 trees as a Living Legacy. It will continue with a full-day large-scale event on 25 July, including a Grand Procession, with further activities and events to be announced.
There are two briefings to choose from, to learn more and discover what else is in store:
· Tuesday 22 September, 2pm to 4pm, at Salisbury Guildhall
· Wednesday 23 September, 6pm to 8pm, at Salisbury Guildhall
Attendees will be able to hear more about the plans, find out how to get involved and meet members of the City Council team. There will be a wide range of opportunities for everyone to take part.

Salisbury 800 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate the city’s rich history, bring communities together and create a lasting legacy for future generations. The City Council is encouraging everyone who is interested to come along, hear more about the programme and find out how they can be part of this historic year.

Floral Showcase
Arrange & Volunteer
Local individuals and organisations are being invited to participate in the creation of a free-to-view flower festival in The Guildhall. This will be the first time such an event has taken place in its magnificent setting.
Sign up to be involved, whether that’s flower arranging, another craft project or stewarding, by using the form below. Both individuals and groups are welcome to apply.
You’ll be working alongside internationally renowned floral artist Michael Bowyer MBE and award-winning floral designer Debbie Wadge, who are ‘designing’ the showcase – both come with a wealth of experience in designing such events regionally and nationally.
There is no cost to take part, as materials will be provided, and no previous floral arranging experience is required. Participants will be guided by the expert team, making this a welcoming opportunity for beginners as well as experienced arrangers.
We’re looking for friendly volunteers to assist with set-up, welcoming visitors, stewarding exhibits and helping things run smoothly throughout the event. Whether you can spare a few hours or a whole day, your support will make a real difference.

Living Legacy
Plant a Tree
Be part of the landmark Living Legacy project!
The initiative will see 800 saplings planted throughout Salisbury, creating a living legacy that will enhance the city’s natural environment for years to come.
Community groups, schools, businesses and residents are invited to apply for a tree or native hedge to plant on private land, with the permission of the landowner.
The project aims to support local biodiversity, provide valuable habitats for wildlife and contribute to the health and wellbeing of residents by increasing access to nature.
Applications can be made by completing the request form below.
Closing date for applications: 1 Oct 2026
Trees will be available for collection during Charter Sunday, 31st January 2027, on the Market Place.
