Salisbury Shopmobility celebrated their 10,000th customer last month

Salisbury Shopmobility welcomes it’s 10,000th customer

Salisbury Shopmobility celebrated signing up their 10,000th customer on Friday 22d July.

The customer named Jessie Holmes received a free year’s membership and hire of the scooter for two weeks to mark the occasion.

After breaking her ankle, Jessie was unfortunately housebound for weeks wondering how to take her children to the park during the summer holidays and was delighted to be congratulated as the 10,000th customer.

She said, “Being Shopmobility’s 10,000th member has been the highlight of my recovery. Having a mobility scooter has given me some much needed independence back. The staff at Shopmobility have gone above and beyond and I’m so grateful for all their help and support”.

Salisbury Shopmobility, run by the City Council, was declared officially open on 2nd February 1998 by the then Mayor of Wilton and now volunteer of the mobility service, Andy Thomson.

Located in the Maltings car park opposite the City Hall, Shopmobility aims to improve the quality for those with temporary or permanent mobility difficulties so that they can explore Salisbury city centre and shop independently.

With membership costing just £8 and then £3.50 to hire equipment or £8 for non-members, the scheme offers scooters, powerchairs, manual wheelchairs, rollators and more. Can’t get to the centre? The friendly team at Shopmobility are happy to deliver to your bus stop, coach or train station or a location of your choice within the city centre.

Open Monday through to Saturday, equipment is available for both short term and long term hire giving mobility impaired individuals the chance to enjoy what Salisbury has to offer with ease.

Shopmobility is supported by a fantastic team of volunteers who deliver equipment within the ring road or help at the reception desk. If you have a spare morning or afternoon and would like to volunteer, please contact them on 01722 328068.
