Salisbury Shopmobility marks Silver Salisbury’s Festival Fortnight with Scooter Scoot

An eye-catching convoy of scooters and power chairs and walking volunteers set off from Salisbury Shopmobility in The Maltings for this year’s Scooter Scoot on Wednesday 4th October.

The event had the theme of ‘Secret Spots of Salisbury’ and followed a route that included Salisbury Market Place, Fish Row, Catherine Street, Exeter Street, Churchill Gardens, St Nicholas Road, De Vaux Place and the Cathedral Close.

A knowledgeable Blue Badge Guide, Steve Sharp, imparted interesting facts and stories as the group explored the city. He pointed out details along the way that had not previously been noticed, even for people that have lived in Salisbury for years.

The oldest scooter scoot participant was 101 years old and made his way round the whole route on his own scooter.

The event was organised to coincide with Silver Salisbury’s Festival Fortnight and ended up back at Shopmobility for a warming drink, a Gregg’s sausage roll, and some home-made cakes which were well received by the scooter scooters. Guests left asking when the next Scooter Scoot would be and plans are already in motion to make the next Scooter Scoot happen.

Salisbury Shopmobility’s aim is to help anyone with mobility issues to have the freedom and independence to access the city of Salisbury and improve their wellbeing and quality of life.

All year round scooters, power chairs, wheelchairs and shop-walkers can be hired from Shopmobility for just £3.50 per day. Membership is £8 for the year. Call 01722 328068 for more information and to reserve a slot to register.
