Salisbury City Council invests in new battery powered machines for use in their parks and open spaces

Salisbury City Council is very pleased to report that the Parks Team have purchased more environmentally friendly battery powered equipment for use in their parks and open spaces.

The City Council now has a new high spec electric mower which will be regularly used at the Crematorium, producing very little sound which is ideal for the setting. They have also invested in some smaller battery powered equipment like blowers, strimmers and hedge cutters.

The new equipment produces zero emissions making them environmentally friendly. The low noise levels means a pleasanter environment for staff and the general public, and they are lighter than the traditional petrol equivalents making them easier for the operator to work with.

Chair of the Environmental Working Group, Cllr Wells said “I am delighted that the City Council is continuing to purchase equipment that is good for the environment. This will further help to meet the targets of our Environmental Policy Action Plan to replace all petrol/diesel equipment with electric where possible. I encourage members of the public to think about how they can reduce their carbon footprint at work and home.”

Salisbury City Council declared a climate emergency in June 2019 and are working to make the city as carbon neutral as possible by 2030.
