Bleed kit installed at Bemerton Heath Centre to help save lives
A new bleed kit has been installed at the Bemerton Heath Centre, giving the local community 24-hour access to potentially life-saving equipment in a serious emergency.
Produced by HeartSafe, the kit contains specialist equipment designed to help control severe bleeding. In any serious bleeding emergency, people should call 999 and follow the instructions of the emergency services.
The addition of the bleed kit follows the installation of a defibrillator at the Bemerton Heath Centre in February 2025. Together, the equipment supports ongoing efforts to improve emergency preparedness and give communities tools to respond while waiting for professional medical assistance.
The kit was installed thanks to Salisbury resident Spencer Mulholland, who raised the money with support from the community.
Spencer Mulholland said, “They’re a critical piece of equipment. If someone needs a bleed kit, they will need it within three to five minutes, so it’s important to have as many as possible within our community.
“It could be needed in any situation involving severe blood loss, such as a road traffic accident or another emergency, so it’s important to have kits in places used by lots of people.”
No formal training is required to use the kit as clear instructions are provided with the equipment, however, Carolyn Port of Winterbury Training will kindly be delivering a free session to help people feel confident and prepared to use it. This will take place on 3 November 2026 from 5pm to 6pm at the Bemerton Heath Centre. Anyone who wants to attend can simply turn up to the session on the day.
HeartSafe bleed control kits are endorsed by the NHS and developed alongside UK police, ambulance, and fire and rescue services. They are registered and visible on UK ambulance service dispatch systems and on a map on the HeartSafe website.
Wiltshire Police works with HeartSafe and will be responsible for maintaining the kit.
