Chris joined the Royal Navy while studying for an engineering degree at Aston University and served as a navigation officer on a number of patrol boats before becoming a helicopter pilot. Selected to be a test pilot, he and his family moved to the area in 1994 in order to attend ETPS at Boscombe Down and they have lived in their house near Victoria Park since 1996.

Chris continues to work as a self-employed test pilot but in November 2024 applied for a vacancy in the St Paul’s ward and was successfully co-opted to be a city councillor. When Chris is not playing with his grandchildren, who all live nearby, he enjoys building models and operating radio control aeroplanes and boats.

As a local councillor he is keen to promote greater use of cycles by making the city safer to cycle in and he has a strong interest in preserving Old Sarum Airfield. As a churchwarden of St Francis’ church, and formerly St Paul’s, Chris has a strong interest in supporting community based ‘people led projects’, particularly work amongst young people.
