Cllr Paul Sample JP is a Wiltshire man born and bred. He was educated at Bishop Wordsworth’s School and The City University, London.

The son of a farmer, Paul first came to live in Salisbury in 1977. He worked for the Parliamentary Liberal Party after graduation and joined the party’s professional campaign staff in 1984. The following year he married his childhood sweetheart Catherine Sample (nee Banham) at St Thomas’s Church. The couple have two adult children – Sophia and Robert – both of whom went to local state schools.

Paul was first elected to represent Milford Ward on Salisbury District Council in February 1990 and Wiltshire County Council in 1993. He was a member of Wiltshire Police Authority until it’s dissolution in 2013.

In more than 30 years public service he has been everything from a local Ward Councillor to a Cabinet Member, Committee Chairman and Group Leader. He has been a Magistrate since 2005 and is now a Presiding Justice on Wiltshire Magistrates Bench.

Paul Sample JP was the Mayor of Salisbury in 1997/98 and raised more than £66,500 to provide respite breaks for local carers. He was the Leader of Salisbury District Council until its dissolution in 2009. A qualified private pilot, Paul is also a Vice President of Salisbury Rugby Club and South Wilts Cricket Club. He also enjoys horse-racing and supports Saints FC. Paul is a company director.
