The Mayor of Salisbury welcomed Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh

The Mayor of Salisbury, Cllr Atiqul Hoque was delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and the HM Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Mrs Sarah Troughton to Salisbury Guildhall today (14 September 2023).

The special visit celebrated the multi faith community of Salisbury, The Mayor of Salisbury’s installation as Salisbury’s first Bangladeshi Mayor and the continuation of his theme for the year of bringing the community together for the benefit of everyone.

Her Royal Highness unveiled a plaque on a tree which will be planted in the Autumn at Queen Elizabeth Gardens. She was then accompanied by the Mayor and Lord-Lieutenant for a short informal walk-about in the Market Place to meet local communities, school children, residents, and visitors.

The Mayor of Saintes, Bruno Drapron, who kindly hosted the Mayor last July for Bastille Day, was also there to witness the very special dedication, as well the Mayoress of Salisbury, the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Canon Chancellor of Salisbury Cathedral, the Chairman of Wiltshire Council, the Deputy Chief Constable and other special guests.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sarah Troughton, said “It was a pleasure to welcome HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh to Wiltshire and everyone at the various venues in Shrewton, Salisbury, Downton and Bulford was delighted to meet her.”
